Hey hey!  It’s update number one from the mile-high city!  Here are some quick highlights from my first day at Creating Change!

Today was the institute for the Consortium of LGBT Higher Ed Resource Professionals.  I connected with my colleagues and we discussed issues like how centers can network better, ways of addressing policy around gender identity/expression, the controversial “Gay is the new black” article from The Advocate (we were all in consensus, gay is not the new black), some best practices for LGBT student services, and I helped lead a conversation on engaging with the local community.  Good stuff!

The opening plenary session feature guest speaker Dolores Huerta.  She spoke about immigration and labor unions but also, of course offered her strong support of LGBT rights.  Here was her best line of the night:

We should all pray for Ted Haggard to come out!

She also had a message to all white supremacists:

Get over it.  You’re Africans.

Oh, and in case you didn’t know, she originated “Si, se puede!”

I went out for a little tonight, but unfortunately I wasn’t feeling well today.  Hopefully tomorrow is better in that regard!

That’s all from Denver for now!  Stay tuned for more updates about all the awesome workshops and sessions I’ll be attending.
