A Poultry Poem
Zack Ford – September 18, 2009
Dedicated to Ernie Anastos of Fox 5 News

In the kitchen I can smell something good
I open the oven to see what’s under the hood.
But before I can look I hear a call,
My mother wants me to get on the ball.

Her voice is urgent, “Time is a-wasting!
If you want good gravy, you better get basting!”
Secretly, I have a greater desire
That has less to do with broth on the fire.

I remember the first time I gave it a try;
It was a much better choice than apple pie.
When others are full and happily finger-lickin’,
I still hear a voice inside: “Keep fucking that chicken.”
