I haven’t posted a lot this week, but I wanted to let everyone know I’ve made some updates to Tthe Meme Collection and added a few things to the Terminology Page as well.

ZFB Terminology

The Terminology Page now includes definitions for Headless Monster, Cisgender (Cissexual), and Poe’s Law.

The Meme Collection at ZackFord Blogs

As you may recall, The Meme Collection is set up as a clearinghouse for the kinds of things people say to try to defend privilege in our society. It doesn’t include every detailed argument that might be made, but covers the broad kinds of arguments that might be made. Here are a list of the updates:

» There is now a table of contents and every category and meme has its own anchor for easy linking and page navigation. There are also links back to the top. Eventually the collection might expand into multiple pages, but this seems to work well for now.

» I have now filled out the third category, which is Anti-Queer Memes, memes that preserve heterosexual privilege (anti-LGB) and cisgender privilege (anti-TQ). (Note that this category only features memes that are not already covered as Anti-Social Justice Memes.)

» The Anti-Social Justice Memes now have some more specific examples.

» New Anti-Social Justice Meme: The “Children” Meme – Any idea that children will be at risk or exposed to “inappropriate” material.

» New Anti-Social Justice Meme: The “Friend” Meme – “Neither my ideas nor I am prejudiced/bigoted because I have friends/family/coworkers that belong to that minority group.”

» New Anti-Queer Meme: The “One Man & One Woman” Meme – “Marriage is a special union between one man and one woman.”/”Children deserve to be raised by a father and mother.”

» New Anti-Queer Meme: The “Sinner” Meme – “Love the sinner; hate the sin.”

» New Anti-Queer Meme: The “Bathroom” Meme – “Gender identity protections will allow predatory men to ‘invade’ women’s restrooms.”

It might not seem like a lot, but this “behind the scenes” work is content I’m very proud of. I hope that people find these other pages helpful for understanding the issues discussed on this blog and how to watch out for language that reinforces privilege.

Happy Hump Day!
