Name: Eddy Disla (Pictured above on the right with his boyfriend, Anthony)
Hometown: Englewood, NJ
Occupation: Community Organizer
Why I Found Him at The NEM:
Eddy was very moved by last year’s election. Obama’s victory “showed the power of people working together.” There are many victories ahead, but Eddy sees the importance of maintaining that attitude. That’s why he and his boyfriend, Anthony, had to be at the march. Not only did they have a responsibility to contribute to the effort for themselves, but they also had to represent for their friends who couldn’t be there.
As Eddy has started getting older, he has developed more of a business sense in his life. Eventually, he just asked himself, “Why should I have to pay more to be with a boy?” Finding no reasonable answer to the question, he speaks out because he wants to see marriage open to everybody.
What He’d Change in America:
Eddy has serious concerns about the way power is distributed in our society. It seems to him that corporations are too powerful, particularly those companies that are actually conglomerates that we can’t even escape in society. If these companies are going to have such power and influence over our daily lives, he thinks they need to be much more open. “Let us see transparency,” he says. Without it, we can not hold these companies that have such power accountable.
(Who knows what I’m looking at in this picture?)
