Juxtaposition: Gender Identity Discrimination and Gender Identity Resistance

This morning, Joe over at Joe. My. God. posted two different videos, and I just had to put them together in the same post.

The first video is of a high school student who was more or less forced to drop out because of his gender identity. Here’s his story:

Here is this wonderful young person who is simply prohibited from being himself. What galls me is that the school chose not to protect him from the harassment he was facing and instead unfairly used a dress code provision to avoid having to address the issue. This is pathetic and this is unacceptable.

And let’s be realistic folks. This is not an exception. We hear stories like this from all over on a regular basis. This young man seems to be quite comfortable and confident in his identity, but now he can’t pursue an education without compromising that. And the only problem here is that other people don’t understand.

I don’t see what the problem is even if they don’t. His Aretha Franklin-inauguration hat is FABULOUS.

Well, I don’t know if there’s anything I can do personally for Jonathan other than help tell people his story. I do think, though, that these two cage fighting drag queens (via LiveLeak) seem to avenge him quite remarkably. (For the record, I don’t think they cage fight as drag queens.)

Watch in the clip below as a couple of punks on the street are looking to pick a fight, and around the 1:00 mark pick the two wrong drag queens to pick on.

Swift justice offers a wonderful catharsis. Watch the clip again. It’s just fabulous.

The lesson here is that this kind of discrimination still continues! This is what we must march for. We must march for the protection and freedom to be ourselves!
