Support For LGBT Elders = “Devolution Of Our Society”

OneNewsNow LogoYou know, those crazy fundamentalists will find a way to paint anything as evil that they don’t like.

This week, the Obama administration announce that the Administration on Aging will be funding a new Resource Center for LGBT Elders that “will provide information, assistance, and resources for both LGBT organizations and mainstream aging services providers at the state and community level to assist them in the development and provision of culturally sensitive supports and services.”

Sounds great. Contrary to all the mythology that we all die young of AIDS, LGBT folks (or HBT folks, as OneNewsNow would call us) get old too. I think it’s a great resource to be providing for the unique needs of our community’s elders. How can this possibly be a bad thing? Let’s see this week’s demonization!

Dave Racer is a publisher from St. Paul, Minnesota, who has co-authored three books on the U.S. healthcare industry. He says it “boggles the mind” to think that the Obama administration would be spending tax dollars to support the lifestyles of elderly homosexuals during what the president has said is the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression.

“This is prima facie evidence of what happens when we don’t pay attention to our government,” Racer laments. “We elect people to go down there and represent us who don’t represent us — and we go on with our lives. It’s just another indication to me of the idea that the little things that we allow to happen today become big things down the line.

I don’t like Racer’s assumptions or implications, though of course I’m not expected to. Essentially, the only way that we can support LGBT elders is by reinforcing their “lifestyles.” Remember, we are completely defined by our sexual orientations. That’s why we’re never called gay people, we’re just homosexuals. Further, it seems that since LGBT elders aren’t part of “us,” the people who elect and are represented by government leaders, then LGBT elders must not be people at all.

But I don’t need to parse Racer’s words to show that he’s an ignorant scumbag:

If we had spoken out on these issues of gender-identity years ago and put a stop to it, we wouldn’t be having this discussion today,” says the author.

Racer says the Obama administration’s new Resource Center for LGBT Elders is just another example of what he calls “the devolution of our society.”

Wow, what a fool. He seems to think that they could have prevented people from having orientations other than heterosexual or gender identities other than cis. Does he think it’s just a fad? As many articles like this as I’ve seen from OneNewsNow, WorldNetDaily, and others, I continue to be scared by the notion that many will read them and think these bigots are respectable “experts.”

I guess all I can say is that devolution sure feels good, so let’s keep marching for it! I mean equality! In their minds, I guess they’re the same thing.
